ET Career Ambassador Position Description:

Recruitment of qualified students for engineering technology (ET) programs at Florence-Darlington Technical College (FDTC) is critical for economic development and a major priority for the college. Ambassadors receive a $100.00 stipend at the end of each semester of service.

Application Recommendation Form

  Application Requirements:

Applicants must be full-time students enrolled in engineering technology at FDTC and meet minimum requirements for the ATE Scholars Program (minimum grade point average of 2.5). Freshmen applicants may become eligible upon completion of the first semester. Eligible engineering technology majors include civil engineering technology, electronics engineering technology, electro-mechanical engineering technology, or engineering graphics technology. In selecting ET Career Ambassadors, preference will be given to students with ATE Scholars experience.

  Selection Criteria:

Students must demonstrate an interest in working with prospective students from a variety of backgrounds (skills in human relations helpful) and willingness to accept responsibility for and commit to these students and this program's objectives. ET Career Ambassadors are selected on the basis of previous work experience, knowledge/willingness to learn about FDTC and engineering technology programs/careers, demonstrated people skills, leadership, and scholarship. Additionally, ambassadors should possess a warm and friendly manner, sincerity, patience, flexibility, dependability, maturity in judgment, enthusiasm, punctuality, and a willingness to follow a prescribed set of rules.

  Application and Interview Process:

Applications and recommendations will be accepted at the onset of each new term. These should be submitted to the ATE office, 2nd floor, Room 5214, 5000 building. Each recommendation form should be returned by the established deadline. Upon submission of an application to the ATE office, students will sign up for an interview with the Selection Committee. Selection of Ambassadors should be completed by the end of the Semester's third week.

As a representative of Florence-Darlington Technical College and the Engineering Technology Program, Ambassadors will be required to promote ET Careers and encourage prospective students to enroll. In doing so, Ambassadors should objectively represent all options and ET programs available at the college.

Training Sessions, Time Commitments, and Responsibilities:

Ambassador training will be provided. ET Career Ambassadors will complete their year of service after initial training is completed. Initial appointment by the college and student commitment will be for two semesters. After a year of service, ET Career Ambassadors may be reappointed by the Selection Committee for another year without re-applying. Ambassadors will be involved in all recruitment programs throughout the academic year. Recruitment activities may be initiated or coordinated by the ET Department, Business and Industry Liaison, and/or ATE Office. ET Career Ambassadors should anticipate participating in 2-4 activities per semester. Expense-paid, out-of-town or out-of-state travel opportunities may be offered to outstanding ET Career Ambassadors. Not all ET Career Ambassadors will be called upon for every event. ET Career Ambassadors may be required to assist in organizing recruitment materials, exhibits, and displays. In addition, ET Career Ambassadors may be required to conduct campus tours for prospective students.
